CYBER PRACTICE RANGE
Since 2003, over 80% of all successful compromises are a result of the same vulnerabilities, year after year. The experts conclude we aren’t learning the “basics” and aren’t making nearly the progress we need to. (Source – OWASP Top 10 2017)
The ABL Cyber Lab directly addresses the OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities. By gaining the hands-on experience of offensive tactics, cyber security students are able to prepare and determine the most effective strategy for defense. Access to the Live Lab training is via Remote VPN Access.
DISCOVERY LEARNING – this Cyber Range is a practice-based, safe learning environment for performing hands-on workplace type pen-testing and learning how to exploit vulnerabilities you discovered. Each lesson allows the student to use top cyber security tools to attack internal cyber range server websites and applications. You will work both in cohort groups and as individuals. You engage with ABL Range Mentors for support when and where needed to ensure skills acquisition.
Lab Mentors are available on-site and through the ABL Online Support Center with instant live chat or VOIP call, 12 hours a day, Monday – Saturday, and by scheduled one-on-one tutoring. (see below and updates on online support)
Progressive exercises within the lab lessons build on prior knowledge, skills and abilities to continually advance to the next target, new tools and improve your cyber skills capabilities. The targets become progressively challenging, and students must use both current and previous lab course tools and skills to complete the exercises.
EXAMPLE: Learn AirCrack-ng Wifi Hacking – Identify a poorly configured Access Point and exploit the vulnerabilities
Your Cyber Lab Skills Training
Experts in cyber tools provide students one-on-one support over real-time VOIP calls and SMS texting, video screen share, all from within the ABL Online Support Server. The Cyber Range Vulnerable targets are also supported by custom training videos and quick start guides.
Access remotely anytime over VPN into our internal “off the web” vulnerable server network…. a safe and controlled place to learn. This is NOT simulation learning; learners use cyber tools to follow lesson instructions and to creatively experiment to develop individualized security counter measures for minimizing systems risks by developing defensive strategies by knowing what tools the bad guys weaponize in their attacks.
Practice Threat Collection and Analysis
VAPT (vulnerability assessment and pen-testing):
- scan and probe
- discover and access
- document and prepare
- exploit and plan remediation to protect
Students access dozens of live vulnerable websites and applications to discover, scan, probe, detect vulnerabilities and practice attack tactics.
Through offense-based skills, using the Kali Linux arsenal of over 200 cyber security tools, Students will have the requisite competencies for identifying and creating effective methods for defense. The learning is all real-world cyber events where students learn, develop and apply newly acquired skills to defend against actual attacks.
Students progress at their own pace. Upon completion of all Beginner and Intermediate Lab lessons, students receive a Certificate of Completion.
The Lab provides hands on experience which is critical to supplement industry standard certification preparation training. A combination of Certification and live Lab experience ensures the student has the knowledge and practical skills to add value to his/her team by helping identify poorly designed code and vulnerable system configuration issues critical to protecting any organization.
Progressive Practice-Based Cyber Training Builds Skills
Learn NMAP, WireShark, Metasploit, Hydra, Nikto, AirCrack-ng, UniScan, OWASP-Zed and more.. to scan, sniff, discover, identify and exploit vulnerabilities.
Practice dozens of cyber tools safely on the ABL Cyberab Range, BEFORE, DURING and AFTER Certification Courses like these below.

THE ABL CYBER LAB COURSE
EXAMPLES: Course Cyber Tools Levels 1- 4 is progressive, lessons build on new skills learned
|ABL CYBER RANGE TARGET EXERCISES (“progressive” 3 month cyber skills program)|
Access 24/7 – Remote VPN
BEGINNER – Cyber Range Target Activities
|Cyber Tools Training
||Cyber Security Skills Gained|
|LEVEL 1 = 2 weeks 40 hours – Beginner Skills Activities
Tools Used: Burpe Suite – Bash – SQL Commands – NMAP
|Level 1 Students work with – Listeners, Scanning, Intercepting data, Spidering and Cross Site Scripting. Use of SQL data and sql data injections. Using CSS and HTML Injections students perform reflected get, reflected post, iframe injections.
Use of SQL basic commands and syntax to reveal database content – SQL Get/Search – Get/Select – Login/Hero – OS injections. Identify poor Session Management portal code for exploiting data – Insecure DOR (direct object injections – Directory Traversal – Remote file inclusion – admin access from broken authentication session.
|LEVEL 2 = 4 weeks 80 hours – next level tools skills practice
Tools: Metasploit – NMap – sqlmap – nikto – burp suite – uniscan – Wireshark
|Level 2 Student performs – redirection scripts, sql scanning and use of additional SQL injections – cracking passwords – port and other scans for discovery and identification of vulnerabilities, sqlmap, nikto, burp-suite, hydra.
NOTE: Students get very familiar with these complex tools in order to go deeper into their features and power during LEVEL 3 and 4.
|Linux CLI – students learn command line interpreter using CTF (capture the flag) practice lessons|
ABL CYBER RANGE INTERMEDIATE TARGET EXERCISES
24/7 Remote VPN
INTERMEDIATE – Cyber Range Target Activities
|Cyber Tools Training||Cyber Security Skills Gained|
|LEVEL 3 = 2 weeks 20 hours
Advanced use of: wpscan – metasploit – Nmap – nikto – uniscan
|Students are now performing level activities practice skills using a CTF (Capture The Flag) target website, for gaining root access. More real-world practice includes; using cyber tools to learn scan technique specification, target specification, port specifications, host discovery, evasion techniques and data exfiltration.
|LEVEL 4 = 4 weeks 80 hours
Advanced use of: Burp Suite spidering – curl and HTML – metasploit reverse shell
Wifi pen test; AirCrack-NG, airmon, airodump, reaver,
|Students build on skills and practice short scripts editing cURL (curl), python, creating reverse shell exploitsStudent uses Pi3W provided from ABL to create MITM (man in the middle) rogue AP attacks and identify strategies for defending against these exploits.
Student creates spear-phishing campaign attacks, malicious redirect links, mass mailer attack, powershell attack vector, QR code generator attack, SMS spoofing attack, etc.
